Over time, your kitchen cabinets tend to collect all kinds of grease and grime. It is just a natural part of being in a kitchen environment where food is being prepared and cooked. No matter how hard you try and keep up with all of the cleaning, the painted kitchen cabinets always tend to look bad over time.
But you can change all of that in a few weekends with some work. Almost anyone can refinish your painted kitchen cabinets and here is a summary of how you can do that over the course of a few weekends.
The first thing you will want to do is clean the cabinets really well. You will want to do this by using a strong industrial strength cleaner diluted with hot water. This will ensure that you can cut through all of the grease and grime that has accumulated on the cabinets over time. You might need to make some additional cleaning solution if the original cleaning solution gets too dirty or the temperature of the solution gets too cold.
After you have thoroughly cleaned the painted kitchen cabinets, you will want to sand them down carefully so that you have a nice even finish on all surfaces of the cabinets. Sanding is a critical step because if you do not get a nice even finish with sanding, the finish at the end will not be smooth and even. The paint that you put on top will just magnify the imperfections.
After you have finished sanding the cabinets down, you will first want to apply a primer coat of paint. This primer paint will make sure that you end up with a nice smooth finish and also will aid in the adhesion of the finish paint for the cabinets. After you have applied your coat of primer, you will apply your finish coats of paint. You will usually want to apply at least two coats of paint. If you do have some imperfections that pop up after the primer coat or after the first coat of paint, you can sand that down.
When it is all done, you can step back an admire your work. Your kitchen will look so much better and inviting for anyone who does the cooking for the family.
